A Trinamool Congress party worker, who works as head assistant in Department of Land and Land Reforms, heckled Land Reforms Commissioner R D Meena and threatened him with dire consequences after the senior officer pulled him up for committing some mistakes.
Prabir Mukherjee, also a member of State Government Trinamool Employees' Federation, was assigned the task of preparing a list of land holdings of the department along with Debasish Bandopadhyay, a joint secretary-rank officer in the department. The list is a part of Chief Minster's proposed plan to build a land bank.
Meena had called both the officers to his chamber for the list on June 1. According to reports, after Meena mildly rebuked Mukherjee for some lapses, Mukherjee flared up and shouted at Meena, who is also principal secretary in the department. The matter came to such a pass that Bandopadhyay had a a tough time controlling Mukherjee.
And the matter did not end there. Soon members of the employees' union gathered and barged into the room of Meena. ``You must behave yourself or you will face the consequences,'' Mukerjee reportedly shouted at Meena.
When contacted, Meena downplayed the incident, saying: "It was nothing much.'
Meanwhile, leaders of other employees' federations having allegiance to the Trinamool condemned the incident. "There are some people who are indulging in these things. Last week, three officials were heckled by Trinamool Congress members at the ARD department. Such incident took place at the office of the co-operative society also. There are some people who have joined the party recently and they are doing all this. They are tarnishing the image of the party and our dear chief minister,'' said Sanket Chakrabarty, general secretary of Trinamool State Secretariat Employees' Federation at Writers' Buildings.
