A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered during a recent police raid in a house of a Trinamool Congress activist at Baranagar in north Kolkata. It is not that firearms have been only stockpiled there the house owner Jhantu alias Ashoke Sur, used to run an arms manufacturing unit from his residence. Ashoke , known as a staunch Trinamool activist, managed to escape police net but his wife Dolly, also a Trinamool Congress supporter, was arrested. Former Telecom Minister A Raja and eight others including former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura and three telecom companies were on Saturday indicted in the 2G spectrum allocation scam in which the CBI filed its first charge sheet pegging the loss to the exchequer at Rs 30,984 crore. The companies named in the charge sheet filed in a Delhi court include Reliance Communications, Unitech Wireless and Swan Telecom. A supplementary charge sheet is to be filed later this month in the case that is being monitored by the Supreme Court... »

The US has calculated the cost of the military operation against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi which started on March 19. So far, it has already cost the US taxpayers about 550 million dollars. Most of the cost comes from the Tomahawk launches. There have been 192 launches by US alone, each costing about $1.5 million. Also, the US Air Force has flown 983 sorties - 370 of them being air missions against military sites and forces and the rest for surveillance, refueling and so on. All in all, about 60 percent of the spending was on munitions. The rest was due to "higher operating tempo" of U.S. forces and of getting them there, said Commander Kathleen Kesler, a Pentagon spokeswoman... »
