The flurry of activity over the last six weeks took it's toll. This newsletter is long overdue. Chulie and Jo joined soon after the Drik anniversary. Both leaving big organisations to join this tiny media organisation in Bangladesh, that packs a big punch. The six Chinese interns from Shantou University just left, but their tearful goodbye is followed by Bai Xi, who came in the first batch of interns and is returning as a volunteer. Anna Lena Hofsaess from Germany joins as a new intern. I was away on short trips to the UK for my talk at Tate Modern, the judging of Prix Pictet, a Majority World meeting and a short assignment for Peace Direct. Made a pit stop at Frieze Art Fair in London and was pleased to see Bangladeshi artist Naeem Mohaiemen on display. Back in town preparing for the Long March on the 24th October.

Our new recruits left two little known organisations, World Bank and Al Jazeera to join the exciting world of media activism. Chulie de Silva joins the Chobi Mela VI Secretariat, while Joe Havely strengthens the media academy. New intern Anna Lena Hofsaess from Germany and volunteer Bai Xi from China describe their reasons for joining Drik.

Yto Barrada is Deutsche Bank's "Artist of the Year" 2011. Yto was involved in a curatorial workshop at Pathshala in March 2010, when she was visiting Bangladesh for the Network Partnership meeting of the Prince Claus Fund.

Sarah Bartmann should never have been transported to Europe. Sarah Bartmann should never have been robbed of her name and relabeled Sarah Bartmann. Sarah Bartmann should never have been stripped of her native, Khoi-San and African identity and paraded in Europe as a savage monstrosity.

The Boy Who Wanted to Fly: Don Mullan was a witness to Bloody Sunday and had wanted to join the IRA. It was his passion for football and his hero Gordon Banks that led Mullan to become a humanitarian instead.

By Brian Palmer: But that night was the last time Shahed Hossain's mother would see him free in United States, the last time she'd have a chance to worry he'd lose anything. Six days later, Hossain was locked up in a privately run immigration detention center near the U.S.-Mexico border. He spent more than a year there,  a period he's tried to forget, before he was shackled, loaded onto a plane and flown to Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The NI assessment is ominous: The government has been more concerned with political games than with addressing serious issues. Unless it can control the rampant hooliganism of its student wing, the Chatra League, the next election will see a complete reversal.
