GOP Senator: Military intervention in Syria should be 'on the table' [American Revolution #2 should be 'on the table'] 12 Jun 2011 Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Sunday that it's time to consider international intervention in Syria to avoid the further "slaughter" of people there by President Bashar al-Assad's forces. "If it made sense to protect the Libyan people against Gadhafi, and it did because they were going to get slaughtered if we hadn't sent NATO in when he was on the outskirts of Benghazi, the question for the world [is], have we gotten to that point in Syria," Graham said on the CBS' "Face the Nation."

CIA Prepares to Launch Drone Strikes in Yemen 13 Jun 2011 The Central Intelligence Agency plans to use armed drones to try to kill 'al Qaeda' militants in Yemen, where months of antigovernment protests, an armed revolt and the attempted assassination of the president have left a power vacuum, U.S. officials say. The CIA program will be a major expansion of U.S. counterterrorism efforts in Yemen. Since December 2009, U.S. strikes in Yemen have been carried out by the U.S. military with intelligence support from CIA. The U.S. military strikes have been conducted with the permission of the Yemeni government regime. [1) Hasn't the US been bombing Yemen all along? 2) Isn't it odd that every dictatorship-for-oil the US and the Queen's Britain supports is referred to in the media as a 'government,' but every democratically elected government the US opposes is referred to as a 'regime?' We're on to the grammar games, and will participate in the inverse. --LRP]

US approved £125m of arms to Bahrain 12 Jun 2011 Bahrain received over $200 million (£125m) in military equipment from US companies in the 12 months from October 2009, according to the latest State Department arms export report. The document tallies up US-authorised arms sales between US manufacturers and foreign governments. Most of the money was spent on aircraft and electronics, but the US also approved over $920,000 (£570,000) worth of naval equipment and $760,000 (£470,000) worth of firearms.

Bahrain medics on trial over protests: Al-Jazeera TV 13 Jun 2011 Bahrain has begun the trials of 48 medical professionals accused of attempting to topple the monarchy, Al-Jazeera TV reported Monday. The medical workers face charges ranging from incitement against the government to storing weapons and seizing control of a major hospital during the unrest that began in February. Some of the anti-government protesters in Bahrain have called for bringing down the county's ruling family led by King Hamad bin Isa Khalifa, a strong U.S. ally, and establishing a constitutional-based monarchy.

Bahrain tries dozens at military courts 12 Jun 2011 Thirty three people in Bahrain face military court hearings, despite the lifting of martial law in the country, reports say. The defendants, including two former lawmakers and a female poet, are accused of trying to topple the government and also face other charges. The opposition estimates that 400 civilians have been tried in military courts so far, including seven Bahrainis who have been sentenced to prison terms of one to six years on charges ranging from incitement to murder.

Oops! Missing $6.6 billion for Iraq may have been stolen, auditors say --Special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction said missing $6.6 billion may be 'largest theft of funds in national history' 13 Jun 2011 After the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the George W. Bush regime flooded the conquered country with so much cash to pay for 'reconstruction' and other projects [dog leashes for Abu Ghraib] in the first year that a new unit of measurement was born. Pentagon officials determined that one giant C-130 Hercules cargo plane could carry $2.4 billion in shrink-wrapped bricks of $100 bills. They sent an initial full planeload of cash, followed by 20 other flights to Iraq by May 2004 in a $12-billion haul that U.S. officials believe to be the biggest international cash airlift of all time. For the first time, federal auditors are suggesting that some or all of the $6.6 billion in cash may have been stolen, not just mislaid in an accounting error. [LOL! How would you 'mislay' 6.6 billion dollars, anyway?]

Iraq says U.S. congressional delegation is not welcome 12 Jun 2011 An Iraqi government spokesman said on Saturday a U.S. congressional delegation is not welcome in the country after a group member reportedly said that Iraq should consider repaying the United States for what it has spent [stealing Iraq's oil] since 2003. Our targets are very clear, we attack security forces, government and people who are siding with it," Ehsan said.

Blasts tear through Peshawar 12 Jun 2011 Two explosions tore through Peshawar's Khyber Super Market district just after midnight today, killing 34 people and injuring more than 100 in one of the deadliest attacks since the US raid that killed 'Osama bin Laden.' The attack was mounted as CIA director Leon Panetta and Afghan President Hamid Karzai visited Islamabad to hold separate talks with senior Pakistani officials about efforts to draw Afghan guerillas into negotiations. The Pakistani Taliban, or Tehreek-e-Taliban, denied having a hand in the blasts. [Everyone knows it was Blackwater, or similar terrorist group. Taliban avoid civilian casualties; US aims for them.]

Also, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said six more workers have received more than the permitted annual emergency levels of radiation exposure. The Strontium-89 and Strontium-90 isotopes are believed to have been released from the damaged reactors when the fuel cores overheated and melted after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, Tokyo Electric, also known Tepco, said at a briefing.

Hackers break into Senate computers 13 Jun 2011 The Sergeant at Arms Office confirmed on Monday that the Senate's website had been hacked this past weekend and that it has ordered a review of all Senate computer sites. The revelation came after a loosely aligned group of computer hackers calling themselves Lulz Security said they broke into the Senate's computer network. "We don't like the U.S. government very much," Lulz Security said at the top of their release. "This is a small, just-for-kicks release of some internal data from Senate.gov - is this an act of war, gentlemen? Problem?" The comment refers to reports that the military had decided that it could respond to cyber attacks from foreign countries with traditional military force. [LulzSec, you *rock!*]

Revised F.B.I. manual gives agents significant new powers --New rules remove limitation on use of surveillance squads 13 Jun 2011 The Federal Bureau of Investigation is giving significant new powers to its roughly 14,000 agents, allowing them more leeway to search databases, go through household trash or use surveillance teams to scrutinize the lives of people who have attracted their attention. The F.B.I. soon plans to issue a new edition of its manual, called the Domestic Investigations and Operations Guide, according to an official who has worked on the draft document and several others who have been briefed on its contents. The new rules add to several measures taken over the past decade to give agents more latitude as they search for signs of criminal or terrorist activity.

About a dozen people were trying to coral 800-pound Houdini across busy Mammoth Road when police showed up with their tasers. "I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign," said Obama to Curry during the interview. According to a White House spokesman, Obama also called Weiner's sexting scandal "inappropriate" and a "distraction" while speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One Monday. [Of course, cowering before Fox News, if one of Obusha's GOP overlords was in the same situation as Weiner, Obama would have remained *silent.*]

House ethics committee begins inquiry on Rep. Weiner 13 Jun 2011 The House ethics committee reportedly has begun a preliminary inquiry into the actions of Rep. Unnamed House officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press that committee leaders have not indicated whether they will move to a more intensive staff investigation of Weiner, who has resisted calls from top Democratic leaders to resign. The ethics news comes as House Majority Leader [hypocritical sociopath] Eric Cantor said today that Democrats should strip Weiner of his committee assignments if the congressman doesn't leave. [Three words: Senator David Vitter.]
