Wholesale Price Indices for Primary Articles and Fuel, Power, Light &
Lubricants in India (Base: 1993-94=100)Review for the week ended 27th
March 2010 (06 Chaitra, 1931 Saka)
New Delhi: April 8, 2010

The WPI for the week ended 27th March, 2010 in respect of 'Primary
Articles' and 'Fuel, Power, Light & Lubricants' is given below:-
1. PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 22.02%)
The WPI for the week ended 27th March, 2010 rose by 0.6 percent to
285.1 (Provisional) from 283.4 (Provisional) for the previous week.
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis,
stood at  14.50 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 27/03/2010
over (28/03/2009) as compared to 13.86  percent (Provisional) for the
previous week (ended 20/03/2010) and  5.15 percent during the
corresponding week (ended 28/03/2009 of the previous year.
The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the
week are as follows:-
       The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.9 percent to 287.3
(Provisional) from 284.7  (Provisional) for the previous week due to
higher prices of fish-marine (4%), jowar and milk (2% each) and fruits
& vegetables, masur, bajra and ragi (1% each).  However, the prices of
condiments & spices and eggs (1% each) declined.
The index for  'Non-Food Articles'  group declined by  0.2  percent to
253.8 (Provisional) from 254.3  (Provisional) for the previous week
due to lower prices of raw silk and groundnut seed (2% each) and
linseed and  copra (1% each).  However, the prices of raw rubber (2%)
and niger seed (1%) moved up.
The index for 'Minerals' group rose by 0.1 percent to 610.9
(Provisional) from 610.4 (Provisional) for the previous week due to
higher prices of chromite (47%), fire clay (20%) and barytes (7%).
However, the prices of magnesite (25%), steatite (9%), asbestos (8%)
and felspar (5%) declined.
2.   FUEL, POWER, LIGHT & LUBRICANTS (Weight 14.23%)
The index for this major group remained unchanged at its previous
week's level of 361.8 (Provisional).
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis,
stood at 12.71 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 27/03/2010
(over 28/03/2009) as compared to 12.75 percent (Provisional) for the
previous week (ended 20/03/2010) and (-)6.09 percent during the
corresponding week (ended 28/03/2009) of the previous year.
