Sikhs protest in Toronto for Justice from Indian government!

Habib Yousafzai

Over 10,000 Sikhs from Toronto and suburbs gathered today in front of King Edward Hotel, 37 King St. East, Toronto, Ontario to protest against the arrival of Kamal Nath, an Indian cabinet minister in Toronto. The protest continued for approximately 3 hours. It started at 5.30 pm and ended at 8.30 pm. At the present time, Kamal Nath is the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways in the Indian administration. He was here to sign a business contract with the Government of Canada.

The speaker was raising his grievance that in November 1984, following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in New Delhi; Kamal Nath was leading a mob who was surrounding the Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib Delhi, India wherein Sikhs, along with their families, were taking refuge. An old Sikh left the Gurdwara and went to the mob to request some water.  Instead of giving water, Kamal Nath urged the mob to burn the old man.  After this incident the son of the old person came out of the Gurdwara and begged to take back the body of his father.  Instead of giving the body, he was also boiled in the boiling oil until death. The carnage did not stop there. Kamal Nath further ordered the mob to attack on theGurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib who in result killed more than 3000 innocent Sikhs, taking refuge there. Another speaker was stating that the Hindus-Brahmins mob did not spare the divine and Holy Scripture of the Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib and burnt many copies of it.  One of the speakers stated that all these atrocities are done on the Sikh Nation because they don't have their own Homeland (under the Indian occupation since 15th August, 1947), and there is no one there to listen to their voice.  Yet another speaker stated that they are still waiting for justice.  Instead of punishing Kamal Nath, he is being made a cabinet minister. He further added that India claims that it is the world biggest democracy, but it is full of criminal elements/parliamentarian, more than one-third serving as cabinet ministers.  The rally which was arranged by youths consisted also people of all ages including children, women, and elderly persons who were shouting as below:

1.           No justice, no peace

2.           We will not forget the Genocide of Sikh.

3.           What do we want?  Justice!  When do we want it? Now!

4.           Sikhs rights are human rights?

5.           The people united will never be defeated

6.           Justice what we want.

7.           Hey hey!! Ho ho!! Kamal Nath has got to go back to India!

8.           Panth Ki Jeet!

9.           Arrest murderer Kamal Nath

10.       Nath should not be allowed to stay in Canada.  He should be arrested immediately!

11.       Kamal Nath is the killer of (burnt) innocent people!  He is an international criminal.

12.       We shall not rest until Khalistan, the Sikh Nation, is free from Indian occupation.

Another speaker said police commissioner Gautham Kaul also confirmed that Kamal Nath was guiding and leading the mob. From November 1st to November 4th, Indian state armed institutions, such as the police, paramilitary forces and political leaders planned and systematically murdered Sikhs across India.   During these four days, more than a 100,000 Sikhs were exterminated, while 800,000 Sikhs were displaced and rendered homeless.  He further added the Government electoral (voting) lists were used to identify Sikh families homes marked for execution.  Sikhs were burnt alive while politicians incited people to kill them, as police stood idly.

Sardar Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a lawyer for Sikhs for Justice, an advocacy group said, "The constitution bars anyone involved in human-rights abuses, even if they have not been formally charged or convicted."As the controversy grew Tuesday, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's office released a statement commenting on the deadly 1984 killing—the worst since India's independence in 1947— saying, "I know many of our fellow Ontarians still feel the pain of these events very deeply, and I want to convey our sympathies." But McGuinty continued 30-minute behind closed doors meeting with Nath on Tuesday.

The protest concluded with the statement that the Sikh Nation will keep fighting until they get justice for the ethnic cleansing of Sikhs done by Hindu-Brahmins in India as well as get their Historic Homeland, PUNJAB, Khalistan freed from Indian occupation.
