DELHI HIGH COURT ON MEDICAL EMERGENCIES IN SCHOOLS - A Division of Hon'ble Delhi High Court headed by Acting Chief Justice has today sought an action taken report from the Government of Delhi on the REPORT OF THE EXPERT COMMITTEE ON PSYCHO-PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND MEDICAL CRISIS MANAGEMENT MECHANISM IN SCHOOLS constituted by The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). Mr. Ashok Agarwal, Amicus in a PIL relating to eye injury being suffered last month by a Class VII student of the Govt School in New Seemapuri on account of alleged negligence on the part of the school, today brought to the notice of the Hon'ble Court that on 14.12.2011, a Class IX boy of another government school died while he was participating in 200 meter race during the sport events in the school. There were no medical facilities available in the school nor there was any ambulance made available. Similarly, medical facilities are not available in both government and private schools. The DCPCR had constituted an Expert Committee sometimes in 2009 in the wave of several incidents of deaths of students in Delhi Schools for medical reasons to look into the psycho-physical requirements and medical crisis management mechanisms in schools in Delhi and to suggest measures to handle the same. The said Report was released by the Hon'ble Delhi Chief Minister Smt Sheila Dikshit and she had assured that the recommendations made in the report would be implemented by the Government. However, till date, nothing has been done by the Government of Delhi.
