Today's explosion is simply the latest reminder that drilling is inherently dirty and destructive. In the four months since the Deepwater Horizon spill, we've seen: * An abandoned well in the Gulf that released oil and gas 100 feet into the air and leaked thousands of gallons of oil into nearby marshes after it was struck by a tugboat; * A massive oil pipeline spill in Michigan that coated the Kalamazoo River with dozens of miles of crude and threatened to pollute Lake Michigan with hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil; * A spill of petrochemicals into a wildlife refuge in New Mexico from a train; * An "oil release" from the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in August, when a pumping station shut down. We have to stop this madness and immediately protect our coasts from any new drilling.
