DUBAI - UAE has announced it will celebrate the Islamic holiday of Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, on Friday, Dubai-based website Emirates 24/7 reported on Thursday.

Justice Minister Dr Hadef Jouan Al Dhahiri said Thursday will be the 30th day of the holy month of Ramadan, the website reported.

According to Dhahiri, the moon-spotting committee failed to spot the crescent moon marking the beginning of Shawwal. However, necessary investigations and communication with the neighbouring countries were made to determine the beginning of Shawwal, the website reported.

In Saudi Arabia the supreme court ruled that Thursday would be the final day of fasting, before the Eid celebration opens the new month of Shawwal, AFP reported.

Egypt's Darul-Ifta, the body that issues Islamic edicts, also announced that Thursday would be the last day of fasting for Egyptians, the report said.

Lebanon's Dar al-Fatwa, the country's highest Sunni authority, likewise said that Eid Al Fitr would be celebrated in Lebanon on Friday, AFP reported.
